Have you ever you ever thought about building an SC/Rambler Phantom station wagon?
I did but just don’t have time to get the project done from scratch so I’m selling as a package a very clean, rust-free, recently painted (in 2004) 1966 Rambler American 440 station wagon, (indicated mileage shows <47,000 miles, and while things like pedal wear would seem to indicate that this might be correct, it's best to assume that the mileage is <147,000 miles), 232 6-cylinder currently equipped with cold factory air. The carb and transmission will need attention -- contact me for the details -- along with a 1978 AMC Concord V8 hatchback parts donor car (all small AMCs, Americans, Javelins, AMXs, Hornets, Gremlins, Concords and Spirits are directly related mechanically and structurally). My idea was simple, swap out the 232 six and crossmember in the 1966 American, swap in the 304 V8 and 3-speed automatic combination out of the Concord, install the disc brakes from the Concord and finish up the car in B-scheme SC/Rambler trim. Which is in a way what I ultimately did when I found a 290 '69 440 wagon locally in Pasadena, which I bought for $4500. After adding the necessary wheels and B-scheme stripe, you can see the potential of what I am offering here for less than half the price (and when done you'll end up with a more modern drivetrain and probably front disc brakes as well, which bolt right in). I've added a photo of my '69 SC/Rambler one-of-none phantom, which never fails to attract positive attention at shows, basically since so few people know anything about AMCs that they don't realize that it wasn't factory-built. The Best of Show winner was Rick Principe's 1966 330 GTS (Images 1-4) and the Best of Street (second place car) was the Petersen Museum's 1952 Barchetta 212/225 which was given by Enzo Ferrari to Henry Ford II which was later bought by publishing magnate, the late Robert Petersen (images 28-54, 57-76 and 126-164).
Other noteworthy cars included the Blackhawk Collection's 1962 400 Super America (Images 6-27, 99-125), the 1960 250 PF coupe owned by Paul Colony (images 222-247, 280-319) and the 1959 TR tribute owned by Peter Giacobbi (image 81-98, 536-540). All are cars that I am working on for full features.
I am also working a feature on Rudolph van Daalen Welter's 1963 250 GTE as it is driven often, displays wonderful patina and because so many examples have served as donor cars for recreation efforts.
As of 5-19-2014 I am awaiting a final list of all the class awards fro the FCA Southwest Chapter.
